DIG receives petitions on police-related grievances

Staff Reporter

KARUR: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, Pon Manickavel received petitions from the public regarding police-related grievances ranging from the loss of a laptop at a women's hostel to public problems through marital discord follow ups and cases involving land dispute that were out of civil purview at a meeting at the District Police Office here on Sunday.

Plea for station

Krishnarayapuram MLA P. Kamaraj submitted petition seeking a new police station at Panjapatti to cover Panjapatti, Vadavambadi, Pappayambadi, Keeranur, Vellapatti and Pannapatti villages.

He also pointed out that Manjanaickenpatti, which came under Mayanur police station limits was a good 40 km away while Kalayapatti that was in the Velliyanai police station limits was equally distant.

They could be brought under Chinthamanipatti police limits which was less than 10 km, he pleaded.

The MLA sought reinforcements for Palaviduthi and Chinthamanipatti police stations.

Mr. Pon Manickavel listened to the demands and assured him that necessary action and follow up would be ensured on his demands.

The DIG also immediately directed the Superintendent of Police C. Maheswari to appoint three additional police personnel for Palaviduthi and Chinthamanipatti police stations. After receiving the petitions from the public, the DIG promptly called up the concerned police station and the officers present there to discuss the issues and tried to find a solution. He also cautioned police stations that had several complaints pending there.

Besides Ms. Maheswari, Additional SP P. Muthusamy, and other officers were present during the proceedings. The day-long process ended in the evening.
