Tirupur: People blocked Tirupur-Palladam road, near Veerapandi, on Monday demanding immediate restoration of traffic on the Veerapandi-Meenamparai stretch. They said that water logging of the earthen road in the sector had been denying smooth transport of vehicles. According to them, students were not able to go to school punctually. The crowd moved away only after the revenue and police officials promised them of action. A break in the overcast gave sunny spells in the city for the entire day. The district received 143.4 mm rain, with an average of 20.49 mm, during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Monday. Following is the rainfall recorded by various rain gauge stations during the period: Dharapuram – 43mm; Mulanur – 40; Udumalpet – 27; Palladam – 17; Kangeyam – 10; Avinashi – 4 and Tirupur – 2.4 mm.
