BANGALORE: The State Government on Monday submitted to the Karnataka High Court that it had already decided to give sites to 45 personnel of the erstwhile Special Task Force (STF), constituted by the State Government several years ago to nab forest bandit Veerappan. The State Government made this submission when a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice A.S. Bopanna was hearing a contempt petition by some former members of the STF. The petitioners had said that the State Government is liable to face contempt for its failure to comply with court orders. They said after Veerappan was killed in an encounter, the State Government had promised rewards, including sites, to all STF members. Though the State had given money as reward, it had failed to give sites. The aggrieved STF personnel had filed a case before the High Court. A single judge had allowed their petition and directed the State Government to consider their representation for allotment of site. When the State Government said it could not allot sites, the STF personnel had filed a contempt case. When the matter came up on Monday, the Government said it had decided to allot sites to 45 STF personnel who had filed cases against it in the High Court.
