WikiLeaks a very sensitive issue: Preneet

NEW DELHI: While External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna ignored a question on WikiLeaks at a news conference, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur earlier in the day described the leaked U.S. diplomatic cables as a “very sensitive” issue and said the government would like to “wait and work this out.”

“This is a very sensitive issue. We have good bilateral relations with the U.S. and they had already warned us. So, I think it is not the right time to comment on it and we want to continue having good relationship with the U.S. So, I think let us wait and work this out,” she said on the sidelines of a conference with Indian envoys in the Gulf and some countries where the expatriate Indian presence is sizeable.

Ms. Kaur was queried about the U.S. describing India and its three partners for the United Nations Security Council as “self-styled front runners” and of U.S. diplomats being asked to spy on Indian diplomats and others posted at the U.N. headquarters in New York.

In response to another question, she said: “It is an internal matter for each country and their diplomats.”

Agencies quoted Mr. Krishna as telling journalists on his way back from Sri Lanka that the government was not concerned about WikiLeaks but only interested in knowing about it. “India's government is not really concerned but we certainly are interested in finding out what this WikiLeaks are all about because they say that they are going to put on the web four million documents.''
