Special officer for the project V.K. Mahanudevan, Superintending Engineer, Siruvani Project Circle, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the work of the second phase of the Malampuzha Garden and Tourism Centre was on schedule. The work was expected to be completed by February next year.

The work was taken up with financial assistance from the Central and State governments. The phase-II project would help in the overall development of the Malampuzha Garden and Tourism Centre taken up under the Destination Development Plan of the Central government. The project included musical fountain with viewing gallery, green house, super-modern illumination using laser technology, children's garden, mini-3D theatre and bus stand complex.

He said Rs.1.2 crore would be used for lighting and illumination work and Rs.25 lakh for an eco-park using the present mango orchard. An additional suspension bridge would be constructed at a cost of Rs.30 lakh under the renovation project.

The new bus stand planned near the Rock Garden would cost Rs.92 lakh. He said a toy train would be introduced at the children's park. Green energy like wind and solar power would be used to run the garden and the tourism complex.
