Government arts, science college in K.V. Kuppam next year: Minister

New facility: Durai Murugan, Law Minister, inaugurating additional buildings at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in K.V. Kuppam on Wednesday.

VELLORE: A government arts and science college will be started in K.V. Kuppam next year, Durai Murugan, Law Minister, said on Wednesday.

Inaugurating additional classroom buildings constructed at a cost of Rs.5.05 crores in various schools in K.V. Kuppam panchayat union, Mr. Durai Murugan said that previously, there was only one government high school in Katpadi and one in Gudiyatham. Thirty government high schools had been started after he became MLA.

Several high schools were upgraded into higher secondary schools. The buildings and infrastructure inaugurated by him on Wednesday include 24 classrooms, three toilets, a compound wall and water supply source established at a cost of Rs.1.38 crore in Government Boys Higher Secondary School (HSS) in K.V. Kuppam, 27 classrooms, two toilets, a compound wall and water supply source (Rs.2.14 crore) in the Government Girls HSS in K.V. Kuppam, and 25 classrooms, a science laboratory, three toilets and water supply source (Rs.1.52 crore) in the Government HSS in Senji.

The Minister said that a sum of Rs.34.55 crores had been allotted for the construction of additional buildings in 47 schools in Vellore district in the current financial year. Works were in progress on the construction of 10 classrooms in the school in Machanur at a cost of Rs.69.32 lakh, five classrooms (Rs.48.70 lakh) in the school in Melmayil, nine classrooms (Rs.66.14 lakh) in Panamadangi, seven classrooms (Rs.57.86 lakh) in Thirumani, five classrooms (Rs.63.27 lakh) in Thiruvalam, eight classrooms (Rs.62.41 lakh) in Brammapuram, all in Katpadi constituency at a total cost of Rs.3,67,70,000.

Mr. Durai Murugan distributed free bicycles to 347 students (175 boys and 172 girls), and free house site pattas to 68 poor beneficiaries. C. Rajendran, Collector of Vellore, presided. K. Seetharaman, chairman of K.V. Kuppam panchayat union, Natarajan, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, A.P. Nandakumar, District Panchayat Council Member, Nandagopal, president, Parent Teachers Association (PTA), Government Boys HSS, K.V. Kuppam, and M. Jagadeesan, president, PTA, Government Girls HSS, K.V. Kuppam, spoke.

V. Ravichandran, president of the Schools Buildings Committee, welcomed the gathering. V. Radhakrishnan, Chief Educational Officer, Vellore, proposed a vote of thanks.
