Staff Correspondent

TRADITIONAL:Deputy Commissioner S.S. Pattanshetty inaugurating tourism training programme in Bijapur on Wednesday.

Bijapur: The Bijapur district, which has a large number of historical monuments, including the famous Gol Gumbaz, has immense potential for youth who opt for the tourism sector as their career, according to Deputy Commissioner S.S. Pattanshetty.

Speaking after inaugurating a tourism guidance training programme organised by the district administration and the Tourism Department here on Wednesday, he said that the youth should study in detail about the history and architecture of the monuments in and around the district to disseminate information to foreign nationals who visit these monuments every year.

He also said that such training programmes should be conducted at regular intervals so that the youth involved in guiding tourists can expand the horizon of their knowledge and attract more tourists by highlighting the art and architecture of the region. He also lauded the efforts of the Tourism Department officials for making efforts to improve tourism in the district.

Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa said that the youth involved in guiding tourists are “ambassadors of tourism” of the region and it is their responsibility to give proper information about the historical places in the region so that the tourists can take it back to their home towns and encourage others to visit these places.

Advocate B.A. Patil advised the youth to develop proper communication skills as the information provided about the tourist places in the region should have an effective impact on the minds of people and create curiosity among them to visit these places often to know more about the different monuments.

KCP Science College faculty Geeta Patil and Tourism Department Assistant Director P.S. Sabannavar were present.
