Collector assures pension to all eligible elders

KARUR: All eligible elders in Karur district will be extended old age pension and other benefits due to them, under various governmental schemes, according to Collector J.Uma Maheswari.

Addressing the valediction of a mass contact programme at Nerur village on Tuesday, Dr. Maheswari said that a special drive was under way in the district to enumerate elders comprehensively to ensure the inclusion of every eligible beneficiary. .

Under the programme special camps have been conducted in Karur, Aravakurichi, Krishnarayapuram, kadavur and Kulithalai taluks and 4,383 petitions have been received seeking old age pension and other benefits. In Karur taluk 1,504 persons had applied and 42 among them were extended pension benefits at the progamme, she said.

A total of 138 beneficiaries were given Rs. 8.43 lakh worth measures at the camp including 56 beneficiaries who got free house site pattas, eight who got copies of house site pattas, 13 were given community certificates and 15 women got financial aid under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Marriage Aid Scheme.

Through the departments of Animal Husbandry, Horticulture and Agriculture two persons each were given certified seeds and fodder seeds, while 16 persons received new family cards .

The schemes were being implemented with the aim of benefitting the needy, she said. Project Officer, ICDS, Karpagam, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Sakthivel, Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer Ammasi, Backward Classes Welfare Officer Dasaratha Ramasubramanian and District Supply Officer Nagajothi spoke on the schemes being implemented by their respective departments.
