Chamarajanagar: Minister in charge of Chamarajanagar district C.H. Vijayashankar has called upon officials to work for the development of the district.

He was speaking at a progress review meeting of various departments at Kollegal on Wednesday.

Mr. Vijayashankar asked officials to tour the district and find out about the problems of the people. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to convene a meeting of officials from the Sericulture, Agriculture and Horticulture departments to prepare an action plan for development in these areas. He suggested that a workshop be organised to encourage the cultivation of commercial crops in the district.

He also called upon officials to identify those anganwadi, hospital and school buildings in the district that were in need of repairs.

Deputy Commissioner K. Amaranarayan said that standing crops worth Rs. 34 crore had been damaged in the rain last month. To this, the Minister instructed officials to make a list of damages and submit a report to the Government to seek funds.

Later, addressing presspersons, the Minister said the forest officials have been instructed to ensure that tourist spots such as B.R. Hills and Himvadgopalaswamy remain plastic-free.
