Chelanoor panchayat members sworn in

Kozhikode: The newly elected members of the Chelanoor grama panchayat were sworn in at a meeting at the panchayat office here on Wednesday.

Returning Officer P. Sujeesh administered the oath of office to the senior-most member and former panchayat president P. Sreedharan at the outset. Later Mr. Sreedharan read out the oath to other 20 members.

Out of the total 21 members, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has 13 members including nine belonging to the Congress. The UDF has nominated Mr. Sreedharan as candidate to the post of president and P. Gouri as vice-president of the grama panchayat.

The chairpersons of the standing committees will be elected later. The Socialist Janata Democratic has two members; Indian Union Muslim League and supporter of suspended Congress leader K. Muraleedharan, one each.
