HYDERABAD: Guntur district continued its dominance in the Council of Ministers with as many as four legislators getting inducted into the new Cabinet constituted on Wednesday.

This was followed by Hyderabad, Kadapa and Medak bagging three Cabinet berths each. In the 39-member Council of Ministers sworn in by the Governor E. S.L. Narasimhan, Telangana region secured 16 berths, Andhra 15 and Rayalaseema eight.

The Cabinet is dominated by Ministers from Reddy community (14) followed by Backward Classes (10) Scheduled Castes (6), Scheduled Tribes (2), Kapus (3) and Velama, Brahmin, Vysya and Muslim one each.

The strength of the SC Ministers went up to six with equal representation to Mala and Madiga sub-castes. Baswaraj Saraiah from Warangal district became the only BC Minister belonging to the Rajaka (washerman community). All districts found representation in the Council of Ministers except Adilabad which was left out for the second consecutive time despite an MLA representing it.

First time legislators, numbering about 72, did not find a place in the Cabinet in line with the practice adopted by YSR. There is only one MLC in the Cabinet -Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy – who was taken on board to checkmate his nephew Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. Md. Ahmedullah retained his place as the only Muslim representative in the Cabinet.
