Bangalore: Eateries and restaurants across the city will now have to pull up their aprons and ensure kitchens are spick and span. On Wednesday, BBMP Standing Committee for Health directed officials to issue closure notices to two hotels and a meat stall. Committee Chairperson B.S. Manjunatha Reddy told The Hindu an inspection revealed that the kitchen of Hyderabadi Biryani House on Victoria Road was unclean. The meat stored appeared to be not fresh and exposed to a dirty exhaust fan in the kitchen. “When we asked for the trade licence, the employees showed one that was issued in 2008-09. According to the rules, trade licences should be displayed prominently. The meat stall next to the hotel also did not have a valid trade licence. We took the senior health inspector to task for not ensuring that the restaurants and eateries maintained hygienic conditions,” he said. At another hotel of the Confident Group on Hosur Main Road, the team found that the utensils in the kitchen were not kept in a dry, covered place. “The size of the kitchen should be at least one-fifth of that of the dining area. The water stored in the tank was also unclean. We have sent samples to the lab for testing,” Mr. Reddy said. Rusted equipment The committee members were shocked to find medical equipment in the operation theatre at the Ulsoor Referral Hospital was rusted. “The doctor there informed us that they had already placed a request for new equipment, which was yet to be sanctioned,” he said.
