Tech savvy:Industries Minister Murugesh R. Nirani at a meeting organised by KASSIA in Bangalore on Wednesday. BANGALORE: Those intending to buy an industrial site developed by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) will soon not only be able to locate vacant plots online but also book them instantly, said Industries Minister Murugesh R. Nirani. He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) here on Wednesday. Mr. Nirani said this measure would remove allegations of favouritism by KIADB officials while considering applications for industrial plots. He said the GIS-based mapping of the industrial areas of the board is in its final stages. Once the entrepreneur books the plot online he can process the request through regular channels, Mr. Nirani said. The Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the last two years had created a land bank of about 1.1 lakh acres whereas all the previous governments together had formed industrial layouts of about 72,000 acres. Brushing aside opposition to acquisition of land for industrial estates either as politically motivated or for higher compensation, Mr. Nirani said the Government would pay almost double the market price for the lands to be acquired. Benefits Apart from ensuring jobs in the industries to the families of farmers whose lands had been acquired, he said their children would be given ITI training even if they did not have the requisite educational qualification. . The government will also insist that those industries give 85 per cent of the jobs to local people as recommended by the Sarojini Mahishi Report. Memorandum During his introductory address, KASSIA president S.S. Biradar submitted a memorandum to Mr. Nirani, urging among other things, to do away with trade licence for small-scale industries; retain the property tax at Rs. 1.25 per sq. ft for own premises and Rs. 2.5 per sq. ft for rented buildings; purchase preference for local SSIs by medium and large industries and representation to KASSIA in the Pollution Control Board, the KIADB and the Karnataka State Finance Corporation. Certification On the occasion, several small and medium entrepreneurs received the ISO-9002 certificate for their units.
