Sound and light show on Vijayanagar empire from tomorrow

DHARWAD: A two-day sound and light show showcasing the history, heritage and glory of the Vijayanagar empire will be held at R.N. Shetty Stadium here from Saturday.

The programme has been organised by the Tourism Department to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Sri Krishnadevaraya.

Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Darpan Jain said the 66-minute show would focus on the Vijayanagar empire from the time of Sri Krishnadevaraya's reign to the destruction of the empire in the battle of Talikote.

The aim of the show was to showcase Hampi, a world heritage site, and to familiarise people with the mighty Vijayanagar kingdom, he said.

A sprawling stage, measuring 232 sq. ft in width and 40 ft in height, has been set up at the venue.

The famous monuments of Hampi, including the Vijaya Vittala temple, stone chariot, Kamal Mahal, temples of Ugranarasimha and Virupaksha, would be showcased during the show.

Background music for the show would be provided by artists such as Murali, Ravindranath, Anu Prabhakar, Sudharani, Champa Shetti, Nagabharana, Rajesh Krishnan and Hemanthkumar. Film director T.S. Nagabharana has directed the show.

More than 350 special effect light fixers and 140 lighting circuits will be used during the show which will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
