Tribal people to take out march to SP office

A Correspondent

KALPETTA: Tribal people will take out a march of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) here on Friday in protest against the alleged negligence in investigation of cases of atrocities on the tribal community.

The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe coordination committee, a committee of 14 tribal organisations in Wayanad district, is organising the march.

At a press conference here on Thursday, P.K. Radhakrishnan, chairman of the committee, and M. Ammini, convener, said the police were deliberately denying justice to the tribal community. They were filing false cases against the tribal people to protect vested interests.

The monitoring committee to check atrocities on the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the special mobile squad for protecting the rights of the tribal people were not functioning properly.

The tribal representatives had boycotted the monitoring committee meeting recently in protest against the indifferent attitude of the police and submitted a memorandum to the Director-General of Police.

The police had been taking revenge against the coordination committee members since then.
