College scheduled to be commissioned in 2011 Rs.80 crore for renovation of ESI infrastructure KOLLAM: P.K. Gurudasan, Minister for Labour and Cashew Industry, said a medical college hospital of the Employees State Insurance Corporation at Paripally, near here, will start functioning by March 2012. He said this while inaugurating a modernised packing centre at the Ayathil factory of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation here on Thursday. Rs.480-crore While the hospital at Paripally was earlier planned to be commissioned in March 2011, the project got delayed due to technical reasons, Mr. Gurudasan said. At the same time, it was expected that the classes there would commence before the scheduled launch. Construction work on the Rs.480-crore project would commence this month with 900 workers. He said he was making these statements on the basis of the assurances given by Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge recently while attending the Indian Labour Congress. At the meeting, Mr. Kharge had also informed that Rs.80 crore was being allocated for renovation of the ESI dispensary at Asramam here, ESI regional Office at Eranakulam and the ESI Sub Regional office here. Mr. Gurudasan said the ESIC was fast becoming one of the best medical-care providers in the State. Packing machine The packing machine, purchased for Rs.50 lakh, had the capacity to pack 8,000 kg of cashew kernels into desired packets during an eight-hour shift. The function was presided over by Mayor Prasanna Earnest. A.A. Aziz, Eravipuram MLA, and KSCDC managing director K.A. Ratheesh spoke.
