Relief works in Villupuram to be expedited

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Government-deputed senior IAS official S.S. Jawahar inspected flood-affected areas in Villupuram district on Sunday.

Accompanied by Collector R. Palanisamy, he first went to the Veedur dam to see the storage and discharge level. Residents in the area told him that since the causeway in the area often overflowed, their habitations got cut off from the rest of the district.

Therefore, they requested him to arrange for the construction of a high-level bridge. At Arasur, Mr. Jawahar interacted with 750 displaced people, who had been accommodated in a nearby school. He noted that the Collector had sent a proposal to the government for setting right the damaged check-dam across the Manimuktha at an estimated cost of Rs. 40 lakh. Mr. Jawahar promised to take up the matter with the government to speed up the repair works.
