Several women activists belonging to various organisations extended their support to her. B Madhuri, 23, a resident of Harkapur in Utnoor mandal in Adilabad district, commenced a dharna in front of the house of the SI at Jastipalli on Sunday morning. She alleged that the SI had married her in the presence of a priest and some police personnel at his quarters in Adilabad district on December 1 following her persistent pleas with the police officers and others concerned for justice. Madhuri charged the parents of the SI with instigating the latter to sever the ties with her on the basis of caste. Alleging that the SI subjected her to ill treatment and abandoned her at the behest of his parents, she vowed to continue her agitation until justice was done to her. “He should honour the sacred bond of marriage and take my daughter along with him,” said Thoyajakshi, mother of Madhuri who is working as an Anganwadi supervisor in Adilabad district. Meanwhile, Bhaskar, brother of Madhuri, lodged a complaint with the Kamepalli police seeking protection and justice to his sister.
