admirers: Visitors having a look at a crib at the Christmas and New Year handicrafts and handlooms exhibition at Poompuhar showroom in Tiruchi on Sunday. TIRUCHI: Whether you wish to deck your halls for the Christmas season or ring in the New Year with a few original touches, the Christmas and New Year handicrafts and handloom exhibition, organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited at the Poompuhar showroom is definitely the place to begin with. Rosewood replicas in various sizes of the ‘Last Supper' with inlaid panels are a major attraction. So is the array of brass and wooden candlesticks on display. Cloth wall hangings, white metal figurines, rosewood images of the Christ and Madonna and miniature models of Velankanni church are also eye-catching. For those looking to brighten up your homes before the New Year, an eclectic range of sofa sets, curtains, carpets and rugs are there to choose from. To tempt women is 100 square feet of imitation jewellery, birthstones, one gram gold jewellery and lacquer bangles. Add to that cotton and silk sarees priced between Rs.150 to Rs.4000. From rosewood spoons at Rs.10 to a majestic bronze Mariamman idol priced at Rs.64, 000, the exhibition with 50 lakh worth of goods caters to a range of tastes and budgets. The showroom has recorded a sales of Rs.1 crore for the financial year ending 2009.
