HYDERABAD: The delicate brush strokes were untrained. The images were unbiased, true and innocent. The confluence of such a large number of young artists triggered fun, frolic and festivities. And yet, there was a sense of purpose and seriousness, as children gave shape to their deep inner thoughts. The 20 {+t} {+h} edition of the ‘ The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2010' held at Gitanjali Devashray School, Secunderabd on Sunday attracted 450 young artists. While only a few emerged victorious, everybody present understood the significance of participation and giving their best. The intensity of the painting competition was matchless. As clocked ticked by, there was a mad scramble for last minute finishing touches. At the end of it all, parents and wards even had arguments over the shades and colours used in paintings. “We were not looking for prodigies. We concentrated more on spontaneity, perspective and the difficulty level of the theme of the painting. A village scene is easy to imagine but painting a visit to the museum is very tough,” said noted art critics and curators, Atiya and Atika Amjad, who were the judges for the painting competition. Children from districts turned up in large numbers for the competition. “This is my first painting competition and I have made so many new friends. I have learned so much by just looking at others paint,” says S. Sriram, who came from Kurnool. In all close to 120 children from districts participated in the competition. “You must realise that all of you are already winners because you have made it to this stage after being selected from 4,000 entries. Hence you are already accomplished artists. Please keep on painting,” the judges said. The prizes were given away by Telugu film actor Nani of ‘Ashta Chamma' fame. Director of Gitanjali Devashray, Gita Karan and Regional General Manager, The Hindu, Hyderabad, P. Ranga Reddy were present.
