Elephant menace

Coimbatore: A herd of seven elephants and two calves strayed into human habitations in an estate area in Valparai.

Following information from the public, the forest personnel along with the estate workers managed to chase the herd back into the forests.

Similarly in Coimbatore, a herd of five elephants and two calves entered human habitations in Thombilipalayam area near Alandurai.

Forest personnel with the help of the villagers chased the herd back into the Moolakadu forests by bursting firecrackers and beating drums.

Fatal fall

Prakash (14), a Standard IX student of Karamadai area, fell into a well while playing with his friends.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel battled for hours and finally, after pumping out the water, recovered the body.
