Five held for chain snatching, house break-ins

MADURAI: Madurai Rural Police recovered jewels weighing 60 sovereigns, cash and mobile phones and other valuables — all worth Rs. 5.09 lakh, and arrested four persons in connection with eight cases registered in Chathirapatti and Oomachikulam police stations.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, following complaints of chain snatching and house break-ins reported from Krishna Nagar, Park Town, Valluvar Colony, Vishwa Shanti Nagar, Shanmuga Nagar and Thondamanpatti, special police teams were formed to nab the culprits.

Based on specific inputs gathered from various sources, the teams went in search of certain suspects and arrested A. Satish (26) of Uchaparambu Medu, P. Siva (24) of Angel Nagar, Athikulam, P. Kalimuthu (30) and K. Pandi of Veerapandi Nagar, Karuppayoorani at different locations and recovered the properties.

Based on their confession, it was revealed that they had snatched chains from two women at Krishna Nagar and Park Town, broke open locked houses at Valluvar Colony, Viswasanthi Nagar, Shanmuga Nagar and Thondamanpatti.

Superintendent of Police M. Manohar lauded special teams led by Inspector M. Ramachandran, Sub-Inspector Jayaraj and others.

Under the pretext of seeking an address in the locality, the accused had snatched chains from the victims and similarly after ensuring that the inmates were away, the houses were broken open.
