5th economic census launched

KORAPUT: The district report on 5 {+t} {+h} economic census of Koraput district, being published by District Statistical Office was launched by district Collector Rajesh Pravakar Patil.

The 5 {+t} {+h} economic census had been conducted with the reference year-2005. While four such economic census had already been completed in India in the years 1977,1980,1990 and 1998 respectively, Bijaya Kumar Tripathy, District Statistical officer said, no such district wise reports were published either for Koraput district of for any other districts earlier .

Only the State reports containing the district wise abstracts were published at the State-level. This district report on economic census provides the micro-level basic entrepreneurial data for planning and development of the district, specifically for the unorganised sectors. The objective of conducting the economic censusis to collect such basic information as the number of enterprises and number of workers by type of activity, ownership, social group for planning purpose, Mr.Tripathy said .

This economic census was the official count of all entrepreneurial units operating within the geographical boundaries of the district.
