“Trinamool keen on 2G truth, but will go with PM”

Special Correspondent

I will be happy if there is JPC: Mamata

‘I have my limitations… we are a small party'

‘Let's have discussions in Parliament'

KOLKATA: Aware that an outright refusal by the Centre to the Opposition demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the 2G spectrum scam could provide the Left political ammunition ahead of the State Assembly polls in West Bengal due next year, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has taken an ambivalent stand, saying though she would be “happy” if there is a JPC probe, she would go along with any decision the Centre takes.“If the government takes a decision to set up a joint parliamentary committee, we will be happy….but at the same time under no circumstance are we going out of the government. We are with the government — we are committed to being so,” she told journalists here on Tuesday. “I believe whatever is the correct decision will be taken by the Prime Minister. We have total trust and faith in him…..He knows what to do and what not to do,” Ms. Banerjee said even as she emphasised that her party was keen that “the truth [behind the 2G spectrum allocation] should come out.”

“We [Trinamool] want it discussed in the floor of the House. The truth should come out,” she said, adding that “I have my limitations, my own boundary, and I know my limitations. We are a small party. Whatever the Prime Minister decides, we will be with him. That is final.”

Asked about the continuing logjam in Parliament over the 2G issue, Ms. Banerjee said what was required was discussion instead of proceedings getting stalled.

“Let us have discussions. The government can discuss, the Opposition can discuss. That way the system will be restored.”
