Collector sends report on damage
Staff Reporter
KAKINADA: Urging the State government to allow the Food Corporation of India to procure discoloured paddy, district Collector M. Ravi Chandra on Tuesday sent a detailed report to the government with the details of damage occurred to the standing crop of paddy due to the cyclone.
Referring to the report, Mr. Ravi Chadra told the reporters that according to the official estimated over two lakh tonnes of paddy got discoloured in the district due to the heavy rains and cyclone from which 1.33 lakh tonnes of rice could be produced. “Of the rice output, it is estimated that 69,000 tonnes of rice would be broken due to the high moisture level. That is why we sought permission from the government to revise the norms with regard to the paddy procurement,” he said. A team of officials from the civil supplies department would tour the district on December 9 to study the ground realities, he said.
