Karwar voluntary organisations save 14-month-old baby

SCARRED: Hulagamma who accidentally fell into hot water while playing in Karwar.

Karwar: Hulagamma, a 14-month-old baby who sustained burns a fortnight ago, has been saved with the help of social activists and charitable organisations in Karwar.

Parasappa Yallapa Hosanna and Manjula Hosamani, parents of Hulagamma, told presspersons on Tuesday that on November 23, Hulagamma sustained burns while playing in her house.

She accidentally fell into the hot water and sustained burns on her back. Mr. Parasappa, who hails from Topalagatti in Kushtagi taluk of Koppal district, had been staying in Karwar for last six years. Mr. Parasappa and Ms. Manjula are daily wage earners.

Hulagamma was admitted to a private hospital in Karwar and later she was shifted to the Government Medical College in Goa with the help of Janashakti Vedike and Universal Club of Karwar. There she was treated and she recovered in 15 days, said her parents. Madhav Naik of Janashakthi Vedike said although the district hospital in Karwar had burns ward, Rs.70 lakh spent on it has become useless.

Doctors in Karwar who administered first aid to child said it was difficult to save her as her skin was tender.

But at the Government Medical College in Goa, doctors adopted modern technology and the girl was saved.

He demanded that the district hospital in Karwar should be modernised and service made available to the public.

The functionaries of the Universal Club who provided monetary help to the family were present.
