THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Those involved in the government job racket deserve no mercy, Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener Vaikom Viswan has said. Mr. Viswan told a news conference here on Tuesday that the guilty would not get any kind of support. This would apply to those associated with service organisations as well. The government had already initiated steps to bring the guilty to book and see if the scam had hit more departments as well, he said. Pinarayi Vijayan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), addressing a political meeting in Kollam, has said that stringent action will be initiated against those found involved in the job scam, however, powerful they may be. ‘VS must intervene' Special Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress (M) leader K.M. Mani on Tuesday demanded a comprehensive judicial probe into the Public Service Commission recruitment scam. He also demanded the resignation of Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran and asked Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan to intervene in the matter. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Mani said the recruitment scam was not confined to Wayanad district in its ramifications, but was widespread cutting across various departments and spread over other districts. He said the reports of the involvement of the relatives of personal staff members of Revenue and Forest Ministers and certain leaders of the pro-CPI Joint Council suggested the existence of a big racket. His party wanted the State government to order a judicial inquiry and the Revenue Minister to step down owning responsibility for the scam that dashed the hopes of thousands of government job aspirants. In reply to a question, Mr. Mani said the CPI leadership also was equally answerable since certain leaders of its service organisation were allegedly involved in the scam. ‘System breakdown' Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, on Monday said the credibility of the Public Service Commission was at stake as a result of the recruitment scam, involving certain people with connections in the Revenue and Forest Minister's office. At a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Kunhalikutty said similar recruitment rackets were flourishing in appointments to public sector and cooperative institutions. The racket exposed the breakdown of a system. The LDF was responsible for destroying one sector which had so far been above board, he said. Oust Minister: BJP Staff Reporter writes from Kozhikode: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president V. Muraleedharan has demanded that the Chief Minister oust Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran in connection with the scam. He alleged that the scam would not have taken place without the knowledge of Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders. He said a probe by the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau would not be able to bring the culprits to book and sought a probe by a Central investigating agency. The incident had damaged the trustworthiness of the Kerala Public Service Commission, he said.
