BANGALORE: Berlin-based theatre artiste, director and choreographer Helena Waldmann, renowned for her unique theatrical style, brings her acclaimed theatrical piece ‘Burka Bondage' to Bangalore.

The dance-theatre set will be staged at the Ranga Shankara on December 12 at 7.30 p.m. The event is being presented by the Max Mueller Bhavan in association with Ranga Shankara Theatre in J.P. Nagar.

The performance portrays the passion and pain of two female dancers, both struggling for freedom: one from the constraints of the Islamic burka and the other from the restraints of the Japanese bondage, a technique that involves shackling women for sexual pleasure.

This production explores images that draw parallels between the two diverse cultures. The performance includes two female dancers who love extremes, a video animation artist and a genius on the drums. The cast comprises Dasniya Sommer, Vania Correia Rovisco, Atsushi Baba, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi and Dona Aglaia Assisi.

Waldmann is one of the most unusual artistes in the field of theatre. She studied her craft with Heiner Müller, George Tabori and Gerhard Bohner, among others. Tickets priced at Rs. 200 each are available at Ranga Shankara and the Max Mueller Bhavan, and online at www.indianstage.in and www.bookmyshow. com
