Lok Adalat on Saturday

To dispose of nearly 1,000 cases through mutual agreement

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu State Legal Service Authority has decided to conduct a Lok Adalat (people's court) in the Madras High Court Bench here on Saturday to dispose of nearly 1,000 cases through mutual agreement. Chief Justice M. Yusuf Eqbal will inaugurate the event.

According to court sources, serving as well as retired judges would preside over the Lok Adalat proceedings to dispose of the cases related to motor accidents and cheque bounce disputes among others. Private individuals as well as insurance companies would be persuaded to reach a settlement.

Judicial Academy centre

It had also been tentatively decided to conduct the foundation-stone laying ceremony for a regional centre of the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy on Alagarkovil Road and a new building inside the District Court campus here exclusively for Alternative Dispute Resolution on the same day.

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Law Minister D. Duraimurugan have been invited for the ceremony to be held at Raja Muthiah Mandram at K.K. Nagar here.
