R&D centre to come up in Phase III of the park VS says presence of big firms will boost State's image Thiruvananthapuram: The Technopark campus at Kazhakuttam here will soon have another major information technology (IT) facility. HCL Infosystems Ltd., a leading hardware, services and information communication technology (ICT) system integration company, has entered into an agreement with Technopark to set up a research and development centre in the area being developed under phase III. On Tuesday, V.K. Bahl, corporate general manager, HCL Infosystems Ltd., signed the land-lease agreement for two acres of land with Mervin Alexander, Chief Executive Officer, Technopark. Executive vice-president, HCL, George Paul was also present at the function. The team handed over the documents to Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan at his residence later. Honour Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Paul said HCL was honoured to become a partner in the growth of the IT sector in the State. “This is yet another chapter in the journey of the company as we add more capacity to build a stronger ICT solutions ecosystem,” he said. Mr. Achuthanandan said the presence of big IT firms would boost the State's image and elevate its place on the global IT map. Mr. Alexander said, “The entry of HCL will scotch apprehensions in the minds of prospective investors about the investment climate in the State. It is also a testimony to the pro-IT policy of the government.” Over 92 acres of land would be used for phase III expansion. Work on a signature building, with a built-up area of one million square foot, is progressing. Phase III would provide employment to around 25,000 professionals, he said. Technopark would allot phase III to IT/IT-enabled services and infrastructure companies. M. Vasudevan, Senior Manager (Business Development), Technopark, was also present on the occasion.
