‘Bhagat Singh of Hyderabad' passes away

HYDERABAD: Freedom fighter and Arya Samaji, Narayan Rao Pawar, who shot to fame for hurling a bomb at the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, passed away at a city hospital on Wednesday. He died of cardiac arrest.

He was 84. Pawar was in his teens when he hatched a plan along with two others, Gandaiah and Jagdish, to make an attempt on the life of the Nizam that sent shock waves across the erstwhile Hyderabad State.

Suicide squad

The trio formed a suicide squad and armed with four bombs, two revolvers and a bottle of poison each took position at different places on the route customarily taken by the Nizam from his King Kothi palace to Mecca Masjid on December 4, 1947.
