Udhagamandalam
A home at last: Khadi Board Minister, K. Ramachandran, handing over Kalaignar Housing Scheme eligibility cards to beneficiaries in Udhagamandalam on Thursday. Udhagamandalam: People should be wary of the efforts being made to tarnish the image of the government, said the Khadi Board Minister, K. Ramachandran, while distributing eligibility cards to beneficiaries of the Kalaignar Housing Scheme here on Thursday. Describing them as false propaganda, he said that they would not succeed. Describing the housing scheme as a ‘dream project' of Chief Minister Karunanidhi, he said that it was to ensure that no one was shelter-less in the State. Stating that all the eligible persons would be provided with concrete houses, Mr. Ramachandran said that in the Nilgiris even those residing in houses covered with plastic and tar sheets will benefit. The total number of houses identified in the district is 895.During the current year, 265 people, including 108 tribals, would get concrete houses. Those left out can approach the officials concerned. MLA (Ooty), B.Gopalan said that the people must acknowledge the uniqueness and efficacy of various schemes being implemented in the State Government. MLA (Coonoor), A. Soundarapandian said that in implementing welfare schemes, Tamil Nadu was showing the way for other states. The Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, V. Muniasamy, the Ooty Panchayat Union Chairperson, K. Usha, the Kotagiri Panchayat Union Chairperson, K.M. Raju, and the Coonoor Panchayat Union Chairperson, Lakshmi, were among those who spoke.
