Investigation kits to be distributed to police stations

Tirupur: The district police claimed to have solved a total of eight cases of robbery, burglary and chain snatching with the arrest of six persons here on Tuesday.

A total of 47.5 sovereign jewellery, a car, one motorbike and three cell phones were recovered from the accused.

Superintendent of Police A.Arun said that D. Bodhiraj, K. Saravanan, Umar Batcha, A Bhaskaran, Annamalai and Mubarak Batcha were arrested in connection with the cases registered in Anupparpalayam, Tirupur North and Tirupur Rural police stations this year.

He said that it was planned to distribute investigation kits to all police stations in the district in a phased manner.

“The kit will have gadgets to capture finger prints and lens, among others, to ensure speedy detection at the station level itself without having to wait for finger print experts to arrive,” he added.

Training would be given to police officials at the stations this week before the distribution of kits commenced.

Cameras

Mr. Arun said that 16 speed dome cameras had now been set up in the city, all connected to the master control room attached to the district police office, to catch traffic violations and deter crimes like chain snatching and eve-teasing.

The cameras were placed in positions from where the image of vehicle registration numbers too could be captured.
