Students display their skills at science mela

KATTAPPANA: A number of unique exhibits by students were on display at the two-day Idukki revenue district IT, Science, Maths and Social Science Working Experience Mela which concluded here on Friday.

The competitions in mat-making, preparing traditional foods, toys making clay models and the micro-level inventions also formed part of the mela.

Preema Paul and Ajana Basheer of Sacred Hearts Girls' High School, Muthalakkodam, said their project was inspired by the rainwater storing methods of the farmers of Thodupuzha.

They said that rainwater stored systematically in the soil could prevent a drought. Acha Maria Kurien and Akhil Biju of Moolamattom St George's Upper Primary School exhibited a still model for de-salting the sea water by a heating process. Children's keen interest in building and crafting, natural way of preserving fruits and food items, skill in fabric painting, artistic work in various media, vegetable printing, treatment of vegetables and fruits were displayed at the mela.

About 3,000 students participated at the mela.
