Staff Reporter

NAGPUR: A check by the Mumbai Police revealed that 60 per cent of the prepaid mobile SIM cards in the city were issued using bogus documents.

This was disclosed during question hour in the State Legislative Council on Friday.

The police conducted the checks in the aftermath of the Jama Masjid blast in New Delhi. Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil said the Anti-Terrorism Squad and the police had a meeting with all mobile service providers, directing them to strictly adhere to the Department of Telecommunications rules.

Mr. Patil said that Rs.2.5 crore was spent by the Home Department to set up a high-level security apparatus at the Arthur Road jail for 26/11 gunman Mohammad Ajmal Amir Kasab.
