Bangalore: Commuters on M.G. Road on Saturday afternoon were taken aback to find the stretch between Anil Kumble Circle and Kamaraj Road-Brigade Road junction closed. Too late, they learnt that the stretch will remain closed till Monday for the erection of the footbridge to the M.G. Road Metro Station by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). Though a press note from BMRCL said the stretch would close from 8 p.m. on Saturday to 8 a.m. Monday, the road had closed by late noon. A press note from him regretted the inconvenience and informed that BMRCL had sought the traffic police's permission to close the road. But considering it arrived well after the road was closed, unwary drivers drove into a traffic snarl. A. Nagappa, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic Central) said traffic will be permitted on Monday if the footbridge is erected by then. For now, vehicles going towards Trinity Circle from Queen's Circle must turn left at Anil Kumble Circle, right at Cubbon Road and right again at Kamaraj Road to get to M.G. Road. Vehicles from Trinity Circle, barring heavy vehicles, autorickshaws and light motor vehicles, can turn left at the Brigade Road junction, right at Church Street and right again at St. Mark's Road. Heavy vehicles, autorickshaws and light motor vehicles may turn right at Kamaraj Road and left at Cubbon Road.
