HYDERABAD: To incentivise environmental consciousness among schools in the State, Chennai-based CPR Environmental Education Centre is instituting NGC School Awards in association with National Green Corps . The annual awards that come with a ‘Green School' recognition certificate, shield and cash reward will stand testimony to schools' environmental efforts. They will be conferred on schools registered with the NGC at district and State levels, carrying a cash prize of Rs.11,000 and Rs.20,000 respectively, W.G. Prasanna Kumar, director, AP National Green Corps, announced here Saturday. Addressing cadets at the State-level NGC Students Environmental Congress, Mr. Kumar said corporates had also evinced interest in supporting the best environmental initiatives of schools. Recently, the State NGC embarked on a relationship with National Cadet Corps involving its 1.6 lakh cadets by conducting activities like ‘Go Green' campaigns, environmental camps, etc. “Efforts are on to build NGC on the lines of NCC,” said Mr. Kumar. The State has announced reservation of 0.25 per cent in medical seats and one per cent in engineering seats for NGC cadets. We are trying to convince the government to make entry easier for NGC cadets into Forest services and Pollution Control Board, he said. Earlier, the sixth NGC Students Environmental Congress was kicked off by director, zoo parks, P. Mallikarjuna Rao.
