Punjab gains three points

Railways beats Delhi by 22 runs



THRILLED:Railways players celebrate victory over Delhi in the Ranji Trophy in New Delhi on Saturday.

CHENNAI: Punjab took three points from its Ranji Trophy Super League match at Rohtak on Saturday as Haryana — set a target of 378 — hung on for a draw.

Haryana finished its second innings on 220 for eight, although left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh (four for 60) struck repeated blows to raise hopes of a Punjab win.

In a firm reminder that it was not a team to be brushed aside and treated with disdain by all and sundry Railways inflicted a humiliating defeat on Delhi at the Rosharana Club ground here on Saturday. Railways won by 22 runs, with Delhi folding up for 113 in its second essay.

The scores: Super League:

At Guwahati: Gujarat 387 & 40 for three in 24 overs drew with Assam 273 in 99.4 overs (Amol Muzumdar 90, Gokul Sharma 55, Ishwar Choudhary five for 116). Points: Gujarat 3, Assam 1.

At Delhi: Railways 259 & 166 bt Delhi 290 & 113 in 44.2 overs (Anureet Singh four for 53). Railways 5, Delhi 0.

At Rohtak: Punjab 415 & 232 for six in 60 overs (Mandeep Singh 84, Uday Kaul 80 n.o.) drew with Haryana 270 & 220 for eight in 74 overs (Hemang Badani 47, Rajwinder Singh four for 60). Punjab 3, Haryana 1.

At Mysore: Karnataka 257 & 391 for eight decl. in 130 overs (Ganesh Satish 76, Manish Pandey 42, Amit Verma 80, Stuart Binny 70, Vinay Kumar 50 n.o.) drew with Baroda 169 & 151 for three in 55 overs (Jaykishan Kolsawala 42, Rakesh Solanki 46 n.o.). Karnataka 3, Baroda 1.

At Cuttack: Himachal Pradesh 163 & 25 for one in 9 overs drew with Orissa 190 for eight decl. in 71.1 overs (Paresh Patel 55, Rishi Dhawan five for 63). Orissa 3, H.P. 1.

At Rajkot: Saurashtra 423 drew with Bengal 569 for seven in 183 overs (Shreevats Goswami 49, Dibyendu Chakraborty 81, Manoj Tiwary 233 n.o., Laxmi Ratan Shukla 45, Saurasish Lahiri 103, Saurya Sanandiya four for 97). Bengal 3, Saurashtra 1.

At Chennai: Mumbai 238 & 13 for two in 15 overs drew with Tamil Nadu 347 in 123.5 overs (S. Badrinath 51, K. Vasudevadas 99, R. Sathish 44, L. Balaji 41, Harmeet Singh five for 86). Tamil Nadu 3, Mumbai 1.

At Anantapur: Andhra 447 bt Kerala 137 & 235 in 109.5 overs (Abhishek Hegde 53, K. Rakesh 72, D.P. Vijaykumar five for 51). Andhra 6, Kerala 0.
