Jaggi Vasudev at the ‘Ananda Alai' programme in Salem on Sunday. SALEM: The Project Green Hands (PGH) of Isha Foundation launched its ‘Green Salem' drive here on Sunday in which Foundation's Satguru Jaggi Vasudev took part. Collector J. Chandrakumar presided over the function in which Salem Mayor J. Rekha Priyadarshini, Industrialists A.R.R. Srinivasan, P. Balasubramani and Muthiah, Salem Conservator of Forests, K. Venkatesh and others were present. Hundreds took part at the Foundation's ‘Mahasathsang' in which Jaggi Vasudev addressed the gathering on the premises of Government Arts College. The ‘sathsang' was held under the theme ‘Ananda Alai' (Wave of Bliss). The Satguru offered his knowledge and conducted meditations and chants and discourse. There was also a question and answer session with him, which threw light on his invaluable insight into the various questions of many spiritual seekers. The Foundation's music group ‘Sounds of Isha' created the ambience with some melodious music and soulful songs. The Mahasathsang served as an ideal platform to create environmental awareness. Display stalls were put up to create awareness and saplings were distributed to people to inculcate a sense of social responsibility within them. Sri Vasudev planted the first sapling and inaugurated the Green Salem Movement. The PGH volunteers also took a commitment to care for the saplings planted in Salem. A Green Rally was also organised on December 10 to raise awareness of the Green Salem Movement. Students, volunteers and members of the general public participated in this rally which was flagged off by Sunil Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police. The Foundation had also undertaken the initiative of adopting 3000 government schools in Tamil Nadu in which basic amenities would be provided.
