TIRUVARUR: G. Santhanam, Secretary, Highways Department and monitoring officer for Tiruvarur district, visited Needamangalam area on Monday and inspected the relief works taken up by the district administration.
Mr.Santhanam interacted with farmers and asked the agriculture department officials to advise them about requisite measures to save paddy crops. He visited the affected paddy fields and enquired the agriculture department officials about crop insurance. The secretary inspected the damaged roads and restoration works taken up by the Highways department. He also inspected the damaged houses.
Mr. Santhanam visited the district earlier on December 5 and 6 and submitted a report to the Chief Minister about rain damages on December 7.
M.Chandrasekaran, Collector; Govindasamy, Joint Director of Agriculture; Ramachandran, Divisional Engineer, Highways Department; M.Palaniappan, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry; accompanied the secretary in his visit.
