KOLKATA: The five persons who were arrested from the United States Consulate office here after one of them was caught applying for a visa with a forged passport were produced in court and remanded to police custody on Sunday. The Consulate officials contacted the city police on Saturday when it was suspected that Jishu Patel had applied for a visa using a forged passport, while claiming to be the wife of Richmond Spirito. The two of them had come to the consulate office to get a visa for Ms. Patel. The forgery was detected when her signature did not match the one on the passport and they were arrested. Three other persons, suspected to be brokers, were also held from outside the Consulate office. “It may be a case of human trafficking or merely an attempt to get into the U.S. We are investigating the matter,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Jawed Shamim said.
