Jeev to cut down on tournaments

NEW DELHI: Jeev Milkha Singh is sparing no effort to recover fully from his lower back injury before returning to competitive golf.

The ace golfer, who last swung his club on November 27, is planning to resume his practice on December 24 and test his fitness.

More comfortable

“I feel more comfortable sitting now for 20-30 minutes. I am doing acupuncture, seeing doctors, physios and doing yoga as well.

“I should be ready for the Royal Trophy (in Thailand from January 7 to 11),” Jeev said here on Monday.

He was speaking on the occasion of the announcement of the €200,000 Gujarat Kensville Challenge 2011 at his signature course — the Kensville Golf and Country Club (KGCC) in Ahmedabad.

Jeev said he was not in a hurry to make his comeback.

“I do not want to repeat the mistake I made — taking painkillers and playing,” he said, adding that he would take a decision in this regard on December 26.

The Chandigarh-based pro hoped that he would be fit to take part in a competition by January 4.

In 2011, Jeev wants to cut down on his hectic travelling and focus on the European Tour. If everything goes as per plan, the seasoned golfer will participate in the Gujarat Kensville Challenge, co-sanctioned by the European Challenge Tour (ECT) and the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), from January 13-16. — Principal Correspondent
