NH-212: no man's land?

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: The National Highway-212 between Mysore and Nanjangud was identified for diversion to facilitate expansion of the airport.

However, the diversion has not been taken up due to technical hurdles, as a result of which neither the Public Works Department nor the National Highways Authority are bothered to take up repair works, which has turned the road into a virtual death trap.

The proliferation of industries in the Nanjangud belt has led to an increase in the traffic density on the highway and the Nanjangud Industries Association had sought for a separate goods terminal that could help reduce congestion on the road.

Nanjangud has more than 30 major industries, 15 medium industries and 35 small-scale units, and the number is increasing, but NH-212 is the only link between Mysore and Nanjangud. The highway also connects to Bandipur, Ooty and Wayanad and, hence, the tourist traffic is also heavy.
