Manipal: The South Zone Convention of the National Association of Students of Architecture titled “ZONASA 2010” organised by the Department of Architecture at Manipal Institute of Technology, brought the creative talent of the students to the fore here on Tuesday. The two-day event had “Tangent” as the theme. A press release issued here by Manipal University stated that the first day consisted of four seminars, nine formal events and informal events and seven casual events. With 12 colleges battling it out to win the two-day meet, there was full attendance for all the events. The event “Three to Tango”, which was a design of a space for three individuals of three different professions, was a delight to the viewers. To add an element of humour to the meet, the events were named discreetly and often delegates were pleasantly surprised about the actual objective of the event. This was apparent in the event “Fist Rage” where the surprise on the faces of the contestants was evident when the event turned out to be “mehendi” design, as most came expecting it to be arm-wrestling. The seminar on “Emerging Modern Day Practices in Architecture” was about use of eco-friendly materials and sustainable architecture attended by 46 delegates.
