KOLKATA: Konnagar of Hooghly won the inaugural Ruia Silver Cup in the 52nd winter National bridge championship here at Netaji Indoor Stadium on Tuesday. Konnagar, represented by Sajal Paul, Surojit Das, Sujit Sur, P. Biswas and P. Prasad, tallied 175.31 victory points (VPs) to beat SAIL Ispat of Burnpur, which was runner-up with 161.08 VPs. The SAIL team, which was in the seventh position after two sessions on Monday, made a fine recovery to take the second position. Ruia Silver Cup has been introduced for the first time in the Nationals to give the lesser rated players a chance to show their skills. Overnight leader MMRMC continued to remain on top after the fifth session with 104 VPs in the main championship for the Ruia Gold Cup. Sunil Machhar's team from Mumbai moved a place up to be second with 96.48 VPs. Formidables of Delhi (91.90 VPs), Poddar Developers of Mumbai (91.19 VPs) and Indian Railways ‘B' with 88.3 VPs followed next in the order. The quarterfinals of the Ruia Gold Cup and qualifying rounds of Holkar Pairs will begin on Wednesday.
