Husband charged with actor's murder

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: For struggling actor Manjula, life eventually turned out to be a horror movie. On July 10 this year, her contractor-husband Yogesh and five of his associates allegedly drove her to Tavarakere, where they murdered her. The police on Monday announced they had arrested Yogesh, a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractor, and his associates for the murder.

After allegedly killing her, Yogesh calmly drove to the Nandini Layout police station and filed a missing complaint.

DNA match

Making no headway, the case was transferred to the City Crime Branch (CCB) division and this yielded results.

The police zeroed in on the body, exhumed it and, using DNA samples matched it with the missing woman.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Special Enquiry Squad B.N. Nyamagowda, Manjula (31), a Hassan native, had acted in supporting roles in the films Prana, Omkara and Appu, besides the Guptagamini serial.

Wanting to move up the career ladder, she had shifted to Bangalore and was looking for a big break in films and mega serials. She entered into a relationship with Yogesh in 2001.

The two married and lived in Nandini Layout.

The motive

The police said the motive for the murder was Yogesh suspecting Manjula's fidelity.

Others involved

Besides Yogesh (33), the others arrested are Vikram alias Loki (29), A. Anil (22), Radeesh alias Babu (26), H. Arun (22) and Prakash (25). Among them, Arun, Anil and Radeesh had earlier been arrested in another case of kidnap and murder.

The police recovered Rs. 58 lakh, Rs. 60,000 worth gold ornaments, a car and mobile phones from the alleged killers.
