Staff Reporter

The outlet's lease expired three years ago

Officials recover 3.5 acres of land in Chokkasandra ward, worth around Rs. 10 crore

Bangalore: Tuesday was a day of recoveries for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP).

Early in the day, officials of the BBMP's south zone, led by Chief Engineer Ananthaswamy, seized a petroleum outlet on 46th Cross, Marenahalli, Jayanagar 5th Block, for non-payment of lease amount.

According to sources, the 8,000 sq. ft property worth around Rs. 10 crore was leased to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) in 1997 for Rs. 10.90 lakh a year.

No response

Though the lease expired around three years ago, sources said despite several notices to renew it, neither was there a response from the HPCL officials, nor did they pay the lease amount for three years. Notices served on the owner of the fuel station did not evoke any response.

On Tuesday, officials seized the property, built a compound wall around it, and put up a board claiming that the property now belonged to the BBMP.

Meanwhile, across the city, officials of the Dasarahalli Zone demolished structures on a raja kaluve. Led by Joint Commissioner Radhakrishna, the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force, amidst tight police security, recovered around 3.5 acres in Chokkasandra ward worth around Rs. 10 crore.

KIADB construction

A press release said 17 houses and 28 commercial establishments had come up on 630 m of a raja kaluve near TVS Cross, Peenya Industrial Area.

The officials noted that the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board had illegally constructed 28 commercial establishments on the raja kaluve and had even given them out on rent.

The demolition drive will continue on Wednesday.
