Hawkers plan agitation
Correspondent
Kolhapur: Hawkers in and around the central bus station in Kolhapur city have decided to resort to bandh in protest against the eviction by Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) along the main roads in the city.
The action committee formed for defending hawkers has submitted a statement to Kolhapur collector Laxmikant Deshmukh on Wednesday demanding the legal basis on which the KMC authorities acted against hawkers and evicted them.
There was no legal basis for the prompt action, 15 days notices should be given according to the legal provision. The KMC administration had failed to do so and the action was alleged to be illegal.
The matter of the KMC's illegal action was raised in the State Assembly session at Nagpur.
