Meenakshi temple donates 4.6-kg gold

MADURAI: Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here has donated 4.6 kg of gold to Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tirupparankundram for making a gold lance (vel) for the Lord.

The chairman of the board of trustees for Meenakshi temple, Karumuttu T. Kannan, handed over the gold biscuits worth nearly Rs. 94 lakh to M. Vijayaraghavan, his counterpart of the Tirupparankundram temple.

Mr. Vijayaraghavan said the gold would be utilised to make a 4.5-feet long lance of pure gold. At present, the temple had a gold-plated ‘vel.'

Subramaniaswamy Temple trustees V.V. Manickam, C. Chinnammal and S. Kaliappan were also present besides R. Senthil Velavan, Executive Officer of the temple.
