NEW DELHI: The legislative wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi and its executive wing are at loggerheads over increasing amount of incentive being paid to girl students in the civic body's schools. While the political brass is keen to enhance the monetary incentive from Rs.200 to Rs. 500, the Municipal Commissioner has rejected the proposal citing paucity of funds. The proposal tabled at the Standing Committee of the MCD on Wednesday for dropping the idea of hike in grant has been referred back to the Commissioner by the Standing Committee Chairman Yogender Chandolia. The MCD gives Rs.200 to each girl child of Class I to V studying in its schools. In February, a proposal to increase the amount was passed by the Standing Committee and it was decided that Rs.500 will be paid instead of Rs.200. But the MCD Commissioner opposed the move citing paucity of funds. He also stated under the ‘Ladli' scheme of the Delhi Government, the girl child is already being provided a substantial amount. MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya said: “We will examine the letter of the Commissioner and take a decision after appropriate deliberation.
